There's a rumor that you can fry an egg on the asphalt here. Not sure I believe it.
July and August also bring monsoon season. Except for the humidity it brings, I kinda like the monsoons. The rain is a WONDERFUL relief from the heat and the lightning and thunderstorms are really awesome. The buildings on the left side of this picture are downtown Phoenix preparing to get hammered!
The monsoon winds can get a little crazy. One of the trees in our front yard blew down a couple nights ago (not an uncommon event!) and every once in a while there is a big dust storm. This is one we had last year. It moved across the valley going 40 mph!
Another surprise for me is the tap water. Now that it's so hot, when you turn the cold water on it is pretty warm and will never cool down! So we use A LOT of ice at our house. Apparently they didn't bury the water pipes deep enough for them to stay cool! It doesn't cool down much at night either. For example, when it was 114 for a high it was 91 degrees for a low! It's just crazy. Anyways, I guess I just need to think about what wonderful weather we have in the winter to find the will to make it through the summer!

Hi Kristin,
I can relate to your whining....
How would you like to be in nice clement weather Oregon and the temps here are .. are you ready?
At our house today at noon, 104 and climbing. Sposed to be like this most of the week until it finally 'cools' down to 89 on Friday. Whoooo it is hot and I don't like it... So misery loves company right. Hang in there, Our winter won't be as nice as yours.
Love you,
Aunt Deanna
